A Passion for Enjoying but Protecting Our Environment

Are you tired of participating in the massive economies of neighboring Alpine countries’ mega-ski cities and their unseemly architecture and infrastructure that litter pristine mountain landscapes?  Do you often regret paying large price tags to hotels or rental companies that pay little attention to protecting extremely delicate alpine eco-systems?  Do you resent footing these large bills only to have your vacation spoiled by people staying next door or above you partying throughout the duration of your precious vacation time?

Then come explore the wild and wonderful Julian Alps in western Slovenia. Chalet Trzinka is located in the heart of the most protected alpine sanctuaries in Europe. And yet our “Ski-in” chalet is just 200m away from the Pokljuka Family ski area where young families can ski together on gentle alpine slopes surrounded by dozens of cross-country trails for skiers and snowshoers of all levels.

But Chalet Trzinka’s splendor is not just limited to its long winter seasons. Right off the doorstep of the chalet are hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails for all levels of hikers and nature enthusiasts. More skillful, fit, and ambitious guests can hike up the rigorous (but well-marked) trails that scale the peaks of the famous Tri Glav (“Three Headed”) Mountain nearby and come back home to the warmth of a sauna, massive wood-burning stove, ergonomic, luxurious furniture, as well as premium bedding and flannel sheets.

Within 300m of the property also lies one of Europe’s largest peat bogs (i.e., glacial swamp) along with a trail that runs around this precious space, one of Europe’s most heavily-protected alpine sanctuaries in Europe. This theme trail enables you to see safely and individually the unique flora and fauna that emerge from this ancient, glacial habitat. There are also amazing mountain biking paths as well as ideal alpine climbs for serious road-bikers.

Many Rivers Run Through It: there a number of fly-fishing only rivers right at the base of the Pokljuka plateau that converge together to form the great Sava River. These world-class streams boast some of the largest, most aggressive trout species in Europe, including the legendary Danubian salmon (Hucho Hucho). Our staff is thrilled to give anglers great advice about where to fish, where to buy permits, flies and equipment, and even provide professional guiding services for anglers who either want to cut to the chase and find the best trophy sections or brush up on their fly-fishing skills.

Our staff at Chalet Trzinka is committed to pampering guests with the most luxurious accommodations as possible but by making as little impact on the environment as possible. We try to use only environmental friendly products, recycle all garbage including the compost that we use in our garden, and use as little electricity and water as possible.

At 1400 meters in the Triglav National Forest, the rugged mountain ecosphere forces us to conserve: we do not have the full infrastructure most of us take for granted like running water. We therefore collect rain water and snow melt-off from our roofs into a reservoir and pump it into the house through a series of filters and high-tech, infrared cleaning systems. That means that we provide our guests with the cleanest alpine water possible; however, our water supply is limited, so we also ask our guests to help us conserve water by taking no more than one shower per day and use the eco cycle in the dishwasher rather than washing dishes by hand.
